Therefore, the easiest place to gain some sort of advantage to push an athlete’s performance to the next level is in <strong>dietary supplements</strong>. However, this does bring up a few concerns. An athlete’s performance is tied directly to their well-being, and nutrition plays a large role in that. Picking the wrong supplements can have a huge negative impact.</p>
<h3>Weight management</h3>
<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1685" src="http://www.dietpharm.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/athlete-diet.jpg" alt="athlete's diet plan" width="315" height="399" align="right" />A number of sports require that the competitors be at a certain weight, and this isn’t always an easy task. <strong>Losing weight</strong> can become a concern for these athletes, particularly if there is more than just their next immediate event on the line. Dietary supplements meant for shedding excess pounds are rarely used because of the detrimental effect they can have on physical performance. Some athletes in other sports do take <strong>weight loss pills</strong> to maintain good performance levels by cutting down on excess pounds. This is still a rare practice due to the potential dip in performance.</p>
<h3>The basics</h3>
<p>Vitamin and mineral supplements are usually taken in moderation. Most dietary supplements like these are nutritional in nature and can be useful in boosting something that the athlete’s diet lacks without making them consume food that can upset their nutritional plan. It isn’t unusual for an athlete to be taking supplements for one nutrient or another. Iron supplements are among the most common, particularly for those in high-stress sports. In some cases, supplements might be used to help replace nutrients that the body loses rapidly when engaged in prolonged, high-impact physical activity.</p>
<h3>Steroid issues</h3>
<p>If there is one category of dietary supplements that no athlete wants to take – or admit to taking – it would be anabolic steroids. These reportedly increase muscle mass, improve strength, and boost endurance. They can also have drastic effects on health, and most athletes who use them have received extremely negative reactions. In some sports, their use has been outright banned. There are also some that can boost aggressive and violent tendencies, commonly known as “&#8217;roid rage.”</p>
<p>Overall, when it comes to dietary supplements, athletes are advised to be careful. A daily multivitamin is usually a good addition to a nutritional program, and there might be supplements that can boost performance without upsetting the body or can induce losing weight. The key is to balance them out and make sure whatever is being taken will not be harmful in the long term.</p>

This can be beneficial in some situations. <strong>Diet pills</strong> can only go so far, after all, and a good part of the dieting process involves the drive and the will to stick to a working plan, even if it doesn’t yield immediate results. There are also times, though, when this determination can be detrimental, and one of these times is when the dieter is a pregnant woman.</p>
<h3>Pregnancy and weight</h3>
<p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-1676" src="http://www.dietpharm.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/pregnancy-diet.jpg" alt="pregnancy and dieting" width="230" height="344" align="right" />The whole point of getting pregnant is to nurture offspring through a nine-month gestation period in the body. During that time, things like <strong>diet plans</strong> and diet pills that help in losing weight are ill-advised because the pregnant body is restructuring itself to retain more weight. A woman is literally eating for two people, and at the very least she needs to consume an additional thirty calories per day. Fluid retention increases during this period, since the developing fetus needs that water. The end result is that a pregnant woman puts on a lot of weight and tends to keep it for a few months after the birth, as her body readjusts hormone levels and reactions.</p>
<h3>Consequences</h3>
<p>There is no gynecologist or physician who will recommend dieting during pregnancy. This is a time for the body to put on weight. Dieting not only reduces the amount of nutrients the expecting mother has for her own needs, but it also starves the baby. Losing weight during this period involves what seems like a systematic deprivation of nutrients from the growing fetus, which can result in birth defects in most scenarios. Diet pills also shouldn’t be taken because medical science is still unsure what happens to the fetus if exposed to the chemicals that these drugs contain.</p>
<h3>Minor exceptions</h3>
<p>Sometimes, though, the notion of <strong>pregnancy diets</strong> isn’t so far-fetched. Yes, a woman is supposed to put on weight during this period, but not in excess. The average is around thirty pounds, though this can vary from person to person. During certain periods of the pregnancy, it is possible to control food intake to avoid gaining or losing weight. Maintenance to avoid over-eating is a good practice, but dieting to drop those pounds is unhealthy for the baby.</p>
<p>Losing weight during pregnancy isn’t a good idea – both for the mother and the baby. In some instances, maintenance is recommended, but this should be medically supervised to make sure that nothing untoward happens in the process. The experience of bringing new life into the world should be enough motivation to be careful during this time.</p>

He thought that counting calories was an ineffective way of losing weight. His ideas were revolutionary.</p>
<p>During the 70s, he concluded that glucose, not calories, were the main culprit in obesity and excess weight. That ran against the popular sentiment at the time, and his theory broke with the tradition of many <strong>diet plans</strong>.  His research brought on the glycemic index, which measured the amount of glucose introduced into the bloodstream.</p>
<p>His peculiar diet plans included the consumption of green vegetables, whole wheat bread, cheese, dark chocolate, and red wine. Instead of encouraging people to eat less, he said that they should eat more of the right stuff. Of course, good health and losing weight aren’t just attained by a diet plan—exercise also plays a huge role. Montaigne just gave us a new perspective when he came out with his theory.</p>

<h3>On addiction itself</h3>
<p>To answer whether or not weight loss pills are addictive, one must first understand that addiction tends to manifest chemically, psychologically, or both. When a person becomes addicted to something on a chemical level, the substance has become so present in the body that the body fails to function correctly without its presence. If the drug becomes addictive on a psychological level, then the body doesn’t need it, but the brain has been tricked into believing otherwise. Most of the available data indicates that <strong>obesity treatments</strong> and diet meds do not have any properties that can cause an addiction.</p>
<h3>Addiction versus dependence</h3>
<p>The idea that drugs meant for <strong>losing weight</strong> might be addictive likely comes from the psychological effect of taking them, particularly without anything else that can help. Once the body starts showing the results of the weight loss pills, the dieter might begin to associate that loss with the effectiveness of the medication. <p>There is no known data to confirm that weight loss pills can lead to addiction. The closest risk to this is the possibility of becoming dependent on them for losing or maintaining weight, which is equally unhealthy. Losing weight, after all, requires more than just pills.</p>

A new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine suggests that waistlines are just as crucial in preventing deaths related to heart disease and other conditions. It shows that people with bigger waist measurements, whether they had normal weight or not, were at bigger risk of death from diabetes, coronary heart disease, cancer, or respiratory conditions.</p>

<h3>The claim</h3>
<p>The idea is that people who take <strong>diet pills</strong> that use fish oil are not giving up a crucial component of daily survival: fat calories. The body needs these to continue functioning, since those are usually what the body burns for energy. To achieve the most efficient levels of weight loss, the body needs to have a number of essential fatty acids. The claim is that fish supplements contain these, allowing the body to sustain its regular energy levels without the risk of putting on excess fat stores. These products are not meant to replace <strong>diet plans</strong>, but merely supplement them.</p>

In contrast, removing the exercise from the test showed that the supplements alone were ineffective. In simple terms, the data shows that whatever is in fish oil, it isn’t a major contributor to weight loss. The research team did imply that there might be some benefits to using it in conjunction with physical activity.</p>
<h3>The theory</h3>
<p>Fish supplements for losing weight hinges on the theory that fish oil allows the blood vessels to increase in elasticity, improving the flow of blood to the muscles while exercising. The increase in blood flow is believed to accelerate fat loss by increasing the delivery of stimuli to fat cells that cause the body to break them down. While this idea is interesting, there is still a lack of clinical data to back these up, or show that increased blood flow can help people in losing weight.</p>
<p>Ultimately, while very healthy, fish supplements are not going to be breaking the weight loss market soon. There’s a lack of data to show that these are effective on their own, and most people don’t buy diet pills that aren’t stand-alone products. Although these supplements are quite healthy, using them to lose weight simply isn’t advisable because of their ineffectiveness in doing so.</p>

<p>Americans are obsessed with <strong>losing weight</strong>, according to the Nutrisystem Diet Index, a new survey system which tracks diet trends in the US. Many would sacrifice a lot to lose at least 10 pounds—with some sacrifices including abstinence from sex or promotion on the job. That sounds like a lot to ask.</p>

<p>Still, most aren’t leading a healthy lifestyle and eating healthy foods, in spite of the prevalence of numerous <strong>diet plans</strong>. Although they’re prepared to sacrifice many things, they find that weight loss is just too much of a sacrifice, and in the face of the global recession and the fact that healthy food is more expensive, they give up on their plans of losing weight.</p>
<p>That may be why almost 60 million Americans are either overweight or obese. There has got to be a change of mindset in the country, because obesity is related to chronic diseases like diabetes and heart problems. Losing weight in a healthy way should be everyone’s priority. Otherwise, we could see it become the number one killer in the country.</p>
