Acupuncture and Weight Loss

With the increasing drive for people to get a good weight management plan going, some people are turning to all kinds of possible solutions. Some of them are sensible things, like exercise and controlled nutrient intake. Others take a faster route to weight loss by taking reportedly safe diet pills. Then there are those who take another route towards their ideal weight entirely. Sometimes, people take an interest in ancient methods for one reason or another, and losing weight is no different in that regard. This, in theory, explains why people turn to acupuncture weight loss strategies.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicinal practice involving the use of needles. The idea was for the needles to stimulate the flow of energy in the body when placed at certain points and following certain patterns. This was supposed to help remove blockages of that energy that led to imbalances, which in turn led to diseases. Acupuncture weight loss follows this basic principle, though some traditional Chinese medicine practitioners may take issue with this notion.

Does acupuncture help?

Practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine will contend that acupuncture was never meant to be part of a weight management plan. There are no ancient techniques that indicate that a person will lose weight with the right application of the needles. However, some experts in the practice have admitted that the right use of acupuncture could stimulate a decrease in appetite.

Weight loss centers have reported that acupuncture, when combined with other, more conventional forms of weight loss, has managed to keep the pounds off. An acupuncture weight loss strategy, according to some reports, would only be effective if utilized alongside more traditional methods. Acupuncture alone is not going to be of much help, and is to be used merely as a weight loss aid.
