Obesity Cuts Teenagers’ Life Span

Obesity is becoming a critical issue for Americans. A recent study has found out that one in five individuals born from 1966 to 1985 end up obese. Obesity tends to occur when the person reaches the ages between 20 and 29 years old. A contrast to this generation is the generation of Americans born from 1946 to 1955, who only became obese after 30. Individuals born earlier than 1936 to 1945 hit obesity in their forties. These findings were reported by the International Journal of Obesity’s April 12 issue.

Pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Joyce Lee of the University of Michican’s Mott Children’s Hospital adds that the obesity epidemic is affecting more children than adults. A research done by the university proves that obesity begins at a younger age for Americans. Particularly affected by the condition are African Americans and women. Dr. Lee adds that African Americans will suffer more from obesity, given the racial disparities in the US’ health situation.
